From Tolmezzo to Agordo and from Agordo to Tolmezzo

We offer this tour, between Agordo and Tolmezzo, in two different lengths and routes. A shorter, but no less varied route of approximately 210 kilometers, and a long and challenging route of approximately 290 kilometers.

The choice is yours. The tour is also described in both directions.

Tour 1: 210 kilometers, 6 hours

No matter which direction you choose: This tour is a declaration of love to pure riding pleasure in northeastern Italy. Over approximately 210 kilometers, this route connects the proud Tolmezzo in Friuli with the picturesque Agordo, the gateway to the Dolomites.

You can expect a route full of contrasts, which leads over a total of seven passes and demands your full attention with around 7,200 meters of altitude (total ascent and descent). You will exchange the majestic rock formations of Civetta and Moiazza for the wild, lonely valleys of the Carnic Prealps.

The highlights on your route:

  • Sporty asphalt: Experience the rhythmic curves of the Sella Chianzutan, famous as a mountain race track.
  • Lonely paths: Enjoy the tranquility on the Sella Chiampon or the 36 hairpin bends of the Passo Rest, where mass tourism is a foreign word.
  • Moving history: Admire the monumental Vajont Dam at Passo di Sant’ Osvaldo.
  • Pure Dolomite feeling: Conquer the Passo Duran, which leads you right into the spectacular mountain world of Veneto.

Tour 2: 290 kilometers, 9 hours

Your curve odyssey between Friuli and the Dolomites: An adventure in both directions

If you're looking for motorcycling in its purest form - beyond mass tourism and the same old standard routes - then this connection between Tolmezzo and Agordo is just your thing. But get your gloves ready: This almost 290-kilometer route is not a leisurely roll to the ice cream parlor, but a real statement. With over 5,300 meters of altitude in ascent and a pure driving time of a good nine hours, it demands your fitness, your concentration and your desire for the unknown - no matter which direction your front wheel points.

Where Friuli meets the Dolomites

The route connects two of Italy's most spectacular mountain landscapes: the wild, unspoiled Friuli and the majestic, bright peaks of the Dolomites. If you are in the Dolomites, Agordo is your gateway to the world of vertical rock faces. Via the Passo Duran, a real insider tip between Civetta and Moiazza, you wind your way through alpine forests and enjoy the panorama of the "Pale Mountains". On the other side of the tour, deep in Friuli, Monte Zoncolan awaits you, a legend that demands everything from you. With gradients of up to 22% and narrow, rustic tunnels, this mountain is a driving monument that rewards you at the top with a view stretching all the way to Slovenia.

Solitude, hairpin bend exhilaration and contemporary history

In between lies a labyrinth of passes that often fly under the radar but are worth every kilometer. You cross the Sella di Razzo and the Sella di Rioda, where the roads become narrower and the solitude of the mountains completely envelops you. A technical and emotional highlight is the passage at Lago di Sauris: The turquoise blue water and the mighty dam wall tell the eventful history of this secluded region.

Those who love curves will celebrate the Passo Rest – its 36 grippy hairpin bends are made for motorcycle tires. And at Passo di Sant’ Osvaldo you drive past the impressive Vajont Dam – a place that today stands as a huge monument in the landscape and makes the immense power of nature tangible.

Your day in the saddle: Enjoyment and challenge

Whether you end the day with an espresso in the cafes of Agordo or start it there at sunrise: This tour offers you the perfect mix of riding challenge and cultural discoveries. A short stop at the Malga Pozof cheese dairy on the Zoncolan for a portion of homemade ricotta is just as much a part of it as the numerous photo stops on the panoramic roads.

What awaits you on this route:

  • Riding challenge: A mighty mix of wide hairpin combinations and extremely steep, single-lane ramps.
  • Pure landscape: The contrast between the dense, green forests of Friuli and the rugged high mountain peaks of Veneto.
  • Real insider tips: Culinary stops and historically significant places off the beaten path.

Whether you start the day with an espresso in lively Agordo or begin the tour in the charming alleys of Tolmezzo – this route offers you pure riding pleasure away from the overcrowded classics.
